Excursions
Part of the experience of visiting a new country and volunteering, is to travel. We suggest you decide before hand with your country coordinator what excursions you might be interested in doing so that you can plan appropriately.
Most volunteer placements allow you to travel on the weekend, however if you want to make sure you don't miss a particular excursion that may take more time than 2 days, plan to stay longer in order to have this once in a lifetime experience.
Here are some getaway ideas!
Machu Picchu Take the road less traveled to the monumental lost city of the Inca. We're not talking easy street—anyone can manage that, and the crowds, limited to 2,500 people a day, prove it.
Ollantaytambo This is literally a living Inca town, inhabited continuously for more than 500 years. Locals folks still dwell in Inca-style homes surrounding communal courtyards. This southernmost town in Peru's Sacred Valley has the most visitors on Sunday, market day, with local crafts stealing the show.
Iquitos Iquitos, in Peru's northern Amazon region, is one of the largest cities in the world inaccessible by road. You must arrive by boat or plane. Iquitos is where you can board a cruise vessel for an incredible opportunity to explore the Amazon.
