Nicaragua Staff
After our recent move from Jinotepe to Granada, we have had several new additions to our team who have made the transition smooth and have helped us so much in settling into our new community.
Mario, our new General Manager, has done a great job of introducing Volunteer Abroad to the local NGO community while maintaining relationships with the organziations in Jinotepe with whom we have worked for the last eight years.
Our House Services team does an excellent job maintaining our gorgeous center which is housed in a two-floor colonial style home a few blocks from the main square of Granada. They also provide a meal plan that highlights a diverse range of Nicaraguan dishes.
The night desk staff are keen to spend time with our volunteers and practice their English while volunteers work on their Spanish skills.

Mario RuizGeneral ManagerMario likes working with international volunteers because he enjoys meeting people who are interested in improving the state of his country.
Mario worked as a tour guide and can tell you all of the best places to go in Nicaragua and how to get there. After that, he moved on to work at a call center where he perfected his English while interacting with people from all over the world.
His favourite activities include driving around Granada to "Get Ur Freak On" by Missy Elliot, exchanging stories about cultural differences, and winning Mario Kart trophies.

Arelys HernandezHouse ServicesArelys, enjoys working with international volunteers and can help you with practically anything around the house. She's an expert at preparing fantastic juice blends and if you're lucky, she'll bring you one of her home-grown avocados.
After work, Arelys goes home to care for her 4 year-old son. .

Oscar SotoNight DeskOscar is one of the night staff at BaseCamp Nicaragua and while at the center he loves to garden and enjoys assisting the volunteers whenever necessary.
Oscar is well-acquainted with the area around BaseCamp since he lives just down the street with his wife and daughter. His favourite way to commute in his spare time is by motorcycle.
